Disable mobile data on iOS
It is very easy to completely turn off the mobile data on your iPhone or iPad. Just go to Settings> Cellular and turn off the Cellular Data option.
On iOS, you can also turn phone data on or off for a particular application and reduce the data usage for maps app, social media apps, email, video chat apps, and for more other apps. For example, you will still be able to access downloaded content on Apple Music, but you will not be able to download new music.

Take a quick look at your cell usage for each app. Below each application on the Cellular screen, there will be a number corresponding to the amount of cellular data that you have used since you last reset your statistics. A good tip is to try to disable the data of the applications that use the most data. You can even use a well-known application like Google Maps completely offline with a little pre‐planning.
To reset your mobile phone usage data, simply scroll to the bottom of the mobile screen and clock on Reset the data.
Disable mobile data on Android
It’s very simple to reduce data usage on Android phone. Go to Settings> Network and Internet> Mobile data> Data usage to disable mobile data. Unfortunately, you cannot disable mobile data for individual applications.
A bit about the background data
It is important to note that mobile data does not only work when you are actively using an application. Many application has built‐in permissions that allow them to update them in the background when you are not using that application. That means if you’re not connected to a Wi‐Fi network and you haven’t restricted an app’s ability to update in the background, it may be over mobile data.
How to disable background data on Android
In Settings> Network and Internet, you can turn on Data Saver, which prevents compatible applications from using data in
the background. You can also reduce the background data usage of individual apps.
