Tesla Battery Technology – How Does Lithium-ion Batteries Work

Share

What is Tesla?

Tesla is one of the best American electric car manufacturing companies. It is not founded by Elon Musk, Tesla motor was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in the year 2003. The company is named after a physicist and an electrical engineer Nikolas Tesla. In this article, you will get all the Information about Tesla Battery Technology

Functioning of Normal Lithium-ion Batteries.

The most battery consists of three parts first one is Anode which is also called graphite, Electrolyte which is also called Lithium Salts and Cathode which is made up of different formulations, this store and release energy by moving electrons from one end of the battery to another, likely negative charge anode to positively charged cathode by powering a device.

How Does Tesla Battery Technology Works?

Tesla Battery works similarly to normal batteries. Tesla motors mainly use two types of batteries one is 18650 and the second one is called 21700 batteries, their name is defined by their sizes, the 18650 battery is 18 mm in diameter and 65 mm in length similarly goes with the 21700 batteries like 21 mm in diameter and 70 mm in length.

If you see 21700 Tesla batteries it is better than 18650 batteries which is the main reason most recent model uses the 21700 batteries. 21700 batteries have great energy capacity and make sense considering multiple variables like including cost, power capacity, energy capacity, lifespan, and so on.

This also means that car will have a fast charging rate, longer driving range, and similarly longer lifespan. In Lithium-ion batteries the anodes are made up of graphite and electrolyte is made up of Lithium-ion however the material used in the cathode varies widely.

Tesla Battery Technology is constantly improving their car so that they stay in the market for a longer period of time.
